Meet Chabeli

Before the Proposal

A couple of weeks before the proposal, Austin and I received a text from Luke. He asked if he could borrow a guitar, followed by a ring emoji and cat heart eyes emoji. Enough said. He needed a guitar so that he could play the song he wrote for Katalina, while he was down on one knee. We were so honored to help out. It was so special for us to lend him one of the guitars we had. Luke had a close relationship with Austin’s late father. Most of the guitars we have once belonged to him, so naturally, we lent one to Luke. Luke traveled all the way from New York in the wee hours of the morning. Katalina had no idea what was going on. She thought he was still in New York. He arrived at our house at about 7 in the morning to pick up the guitar and then he was headed off to Gainesville. His family owns a jewelry shop and they helped Luke redesigned his mother’s engagement ring for Katalina.

We actually had a Saturday off for once, so while we were waiting to hear that the big moment had happened, we decided to make a quick trip to Home Depot in Lake City to kill some time. While browsing for a new ceiling fan, Austin’s phone goes off. He looks at me and says “uh oh. It’s Luke something must be up.” Austin picked up and we immediately started heading back to the car. We just knew in our guts that our time shopping was up. Side note: I’m kind of happy about that as Austin and I were not agreeing on ANY ceiling fans that day and I could sense we were not going to come to an agreement.

As we got back to the car, Luke informed us that one of the guitar strings had broken while he was practicing, so he asked if we had any string. We didn’t and all local music stores were already closed. Ah, the joys of living in a small town, where most small shops close before 3 pm on a Saturday. Luckily we only own a handful of guitars, about 7 or so. Austin told Luke to just come to our house ASAP, and just switch it out for another guitar. Shortly after we got home Luke arrived, when I opened the door I could tell he had been working out, the guy was pretty sweaty. He said “oh yeah, and can I take a shower here?” we chuckled and obviously we offered him our shower. Katalina, you’re welcome ;). Once he was all cleaned up he showed us the ring and my heart skipped a beat. It was simply stunning! A rose gold ring that was once his moms, it was so perfect for her. He then asked us if we would like to hear the song he wrote…..um, yeah?…..Of course we wanted to after everything that had happened. While he was singing we could feel his emotion. It was happiness, nerves, and excitement. There was so much passion we could hear it in his voice as he sang, so much that I started to tear up. Okay, okay, okay I totally cried. After talking to Luke it was decided that we would tag along and capture everything on film leading up to the proposal. We jump up with excitement and with only about 10 minutes before we had to head to Katalina’s to get set up, we had to pack our bags and go. She was only a few blocks away eating sushi with her family, so timing was of the essence, we had to GO! Talk about a whirlwind of a day!

How He Proposed

They were set to have a face time date after she came home from dinner (remember Luke was in Florida and she had no idea.) So, Luke pretended that there was connection issues and that is why he couldn’t connect. While the connection issues were taking place we walked through the woods at dusk to come in to the house and get in position all while Katalina was sitting in her room just a few feet away. He totally surprised Katalina. Truly one of the most raw and beautiful moments we have ever been a part of. Watch the behind the scenes moments and how he proposed to his beautiful wife to be in the video below. The song is stinking adorkable.

Oh, and in case you are wondering we still have not purchased a ceiling fan for our office. Tehe, we just can’t compromise on our taste I guess.

Enjoy! Love-

Chabeli
